Since her youth, she has performed folk, rhythm & blues and classically. Currently, she can be heard singing jazz, blues and her original compositions, many of which are written with the poet Carol Ann Duffy.

In August 2003, Eliana Tomkins appeared at the Edinburgh Festival, in a show entitled Eliana Tomkins - Sweet Jazz. She returned to the Festival in August 2004, with two shows - "Sweet Jazz" and "Salty Blues".
